I really had a great time while I was doing my tour in this German town. Booking the best deal on flights to Munich was an experience in its own as I was offered the deal I was after by compareandfly.com, one of trusted names in the industry for flight comparison. Let me share with you some of my things I got sheer pleasure from and I hope you would too. Here are 5 must-do’s in Munich: 1. Neues Rathaus (The New City Hall) and Marienplatz A visit to the New City Hall is a perfect place to give a kick start to your Bavarian tour. Started in 1867, and built in the Gothic Revival style, no traveler even thinks about missing this spectacular place. This is because that the Neues Rathaus is a huge Gotham city with gargoyles, dragons and geraniums. Also home to main tourist information office in Munich, go up the 85 m high tower for some great views of the city. The Marienplatz has been the main square in the Bavarian capital since 1158. Standing in the centre of this square will make you feel as if you’re in Munich’s centre. 2.Englischer Garten (The English Garden) Both London’s Hyde Park and New York’s Central Park when combined will not be able to make the area of the English Garden. The garden was commissioned at the same time when the French were occupied with some royal executions. The English Garden was designed by Benjamin Thompson, who was an American advisor to the government. Exploring this attraction is a must as there are paths, ponds and brooks. There’s a faux Greek Temple built way back in 1838, a Japanese Tea House which was built for the Olympic Games held in 1972 and the most famous, the Chinese Tower. 3.The Old and Modern Pinakothek (Alte Pinakothek und Pinakothek der Moderne) Fond of arts? Look no further as you’d soon find yourself lost between two worlds depicting magnificent art forms. The Old Pinakothek will get you familiar with everything from Rubens to Rembrandt, along with a huge collection of Dutch, Italian and Spanish masters. What makes it olut of the ordinary is its fine collection of German masters. Talking about the Modern Pinakothekk, it appears to be the largest modern art museum in the country. Home to four different collections: 20th century art, applied design, a graphics collection and an architecture museum - each one is capable of making your feet full of blisters. Know that the Old and Modern Pinakothek are only one-minute away and have fine museum cafes. 4.The Residenzmuseum You cannot afford to miss taking a tour of the former Munich residence. Home to the Wittelsbach Dynasty, one of the longest ruling royal families in Europe, their residence catches the fancy of every visitor. All the treasures and trappings would make you think about the 700 years of dynastic rule. Don’t miss the Antiquarium, the huge hall built to preserve the antique collection of the royal family. At least two hours are enough to take a tour of this attraction.
